India's retail inflation eases marginally to 4.75% in May

Date: June 12, 2025

India’s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), eased to 4.3% in May 2025, from 4.8% in April, as food inflation moderated due to declining vegetable and edible oil prices. Core inflation also remained benign at 4.1%. Economists said the inflation print is within RBI’s target band and provides space for maintaining an accommodative stance to support growth. However, risks remain due to volatile global crude oil prices and potential monsoon impact on food prices. The next MPC meeting is expected to keep rates unchanged to assess economic momentum.
