India’s wheat production for the 2025 rabi season reached a record 113 million tonnes, surpassing the previous year’s output of 110 million tonnes. The Agriculture Ministry attributed the rise to favourable winter temperatures, timely irrigation, and the use of high-yielding seed varieties. Punjab and Haryana recorded higher procurement this year, ensuring buffer stocks remain comfortable. However, traders warned that unseasonal rains in some regions affected grain quality, leading to procurement challenges. Food security experts said the record harvest will help stabilise domestic wheat prices, benefiting both government procurement and public distribution schemes.
