Invictus Games 2025 introduces winter sports for veterans in Canada

The 7th Invictus Games began on February 8, 2025, in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, marking the first time winter adaptive sports were included in its history. Over 500 injured service personnel from 23 countries participated in events like alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, skeleton, and wheelchair curling. The opening ceremony featured performances by Chris Martin and Katy Perry, while the medal design reflected collaboration with Canada’s First Nations artists. The Games aim to use sport as a tool for rehabilitation and social integration, strengthening resilience and mental health for veterans worldwide. This year’s edition also focused on environmental sustainability and indigenous inclusion. The addition of winter sports is expected to expand the Games’ reach and recognition globally, promoting adaptive sports for physical and psychological healing.
